Yellow fever virus
Yellow fever is found in South America, Western Africa, and some parts of Eastern Africa.
The virus is spread via mosquito bites. Symptoms range from fever with body aches to severe liver and kidney diseases with bleeding and yellow discoloration of skin and eyes.
The diagnosis is established based on the symptoms, travel history, and laboratory findings. No specific medication treats or cures the disease. Yellow fever is a rare cause of illness in US travelers. To prevent getting an illness, it is advised to use insect repellent, wear long-sleeved shirts, and, most importantly, get vaccinated.
