The virus spreads through mosquito bites. The common symptoms are fever and joint pain.

The diagnosis can be established based on symptoms, travel history, and blood work.

There is no specific medication to treat chikungunya.

Prevention consists of using insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved shirts, and getting vaccinated.
